Deana - Progam setting assignment

Program restrictions...but found it fun as I have never used this setting. f/6.3 ~1/320 and ISO 3200. I really did plan on using the picture of the capital, however I liked the color the sign reflects to the building and how the lights caught the stain glass. Thanks for the challenge Barb. See you in two weeks.

Drew Rickman - 3 Challenges

I forgot to write down my metadata and I am at work so I can't put them down for the time being... But here are my pictures.

Autumn Landscape

Intimate Moment

Flash Challenge

Zane - Autumn

Linda W - Intimate Moments

F5.6, ISO 400...Grandma was busy washing the lunch dishes, Reagan couldn't wait to go upstairs for a nap. Bear was just doing his job of watching over his buddy.
ISO 100, F8, Ultraviolet filter. Recently, Layla joined the walking world. I witnessed many a intimate moment with grass, concrete, rocks, sand but mostly shadows.

How could I choose between a grandson or granddaughter?

Photos were taken at the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. ISO 100, 70-300mm I/S Lens, Time values of 1/500, 1/13, 1/15, 1/3. Included the first photo to show I can snap an in focus picture. This is a catch up assignment from week one.

Dick - Flashr Assign./ "Intimate Moment"

Barbra's Flashrs' challenge assignment sent out early in the week was a total disaster for me. Both of the attached were taken with flash in a shaded area just off my front steps. On program mode I think I've got it figured out. The bottom photo, "Intimate Moment," was converted to black and white.

FLASHr - Mark

I decided to go outside for this assignment. These shots are of new Recruit Firefighters learning hose evolutions. My goal was use off camera flash holding it at different locations to capture the best possible shot.
Camera settings - f/5.3 to f/4.2, shutter speeds 1/125 to 1/160, ISO 200, 70mm to 34mm.

FLASHr- Andrea

This was a fun experiment. The first picture was taken using full flash aimed directly at the frog, and the frog was positioned right against the wall. As expected, it looks bad. I noticed that the shadows and reflection on the wall seemed to improve once I was at least 4-6 feet away. For fun, I tried using my diffuser for the second picture. I placed the frog about 6 feet from the wall, and it looks much more natural. As you can see from the shadow under the frog's arm, I bounced the flash from the side. But, aside from that, it definitely is better than the first picture! The light seems a lot "softer" and accentuates the soft texture of the frog.
All setting were the same, and I was about two feet from the frog.

Autumn Landscape- Andrea

I'm not completely satisfied with this image, but it's what I was able to get. I was taking pictures of my kids at Nisqually and took this picture as we were leaving. Unfortunately, my kids were already way ahead of me, so I didn't have time to change my settings and set up a tripod (which I actually brought with me!). I'm not sure about the vertical orientation for a "landscape" picture, or about the way the path is coming in from the side and leading to the center. If I had more time I would have changed my camera settings to avoid the overexposed spots, use a tripod, spend more time on composition, etc.

Deana ~ Intimate Moment and Autum Landscape

We visited the Portland Zoo this weekend. The top photo is my Autumn Landscape. When I took the picture I envisioned more color, but it wasn't there upon getting home. But I loved shadows and the reflection in the water. My composition should have been a little different but was happy with the the other components. My intimate moment was actually a different picture...but in review of the day I found this picture of my nephew Zac and the new baby gorilla and loved the moment. I just snapped the picture quickly and enjoyed watching him watch the baby. It was one of those moments where I got a shot off and enjoyed the moment with him. Hope to post the SETr photo soon. Almost caught up with homework!!! :)

Fall Colors

I love when the hydrangeas change from summer blue to the more muted blues and purples of fall.

Dick - "Changing Seasons"

"Changing Seasons" was taken as the short phrase assignment for last Wednesday's class. I went outside and headed for the first tree that I found changing color. Since I am also taking Barbra's Photoshop Elements class I removed many of the little brown spots that looked like a case of the measles with the spot healing brush tool.

Zane - Express Yourself!

Assignment from 6-6:30.  The Fish store owner, and two girls outside the fish store.  They were all expressing themselves.  They caught my eye because they were all in their complete element of being natural in the moment.

Dick - Little Surprises

This image is from one of the salmon displayed in the lobby. While I knew that I wanted to shoot a close-up, the "Little Surprise" was the difference between the reflection colors as I saw it and the image.

Dick - Three Images

I'm now on the correct blog site. Last Tuesday I hiked the Tolmie Peak Trail to Lake Eunice in search of "fall color." While disappointed with the colors I later learned on the way out that it has not been cold enough but that the fall colors should start to show in a week or so.

While the views of Mt. Rainier were not the best from this hike I took photos of the mountain anyway. I struggled to not blow out the peak of the mountain. I would have tried a graduated neutral density filter for the first time but forgot it. I took the photos that I did not blow out and decreased the shadow areas in Photoshop Elements.
